Meet the Artist behind Fairy Bread Crumbs

Erin Reinboth is an Australian contemporary artist living on Victoria's Surf Coast, where the vibrant natural landscape inspires her abstract intuitive paintings. Erin is the incredibly talented creator of Fairy Bread Crumbs, our latest artist collaboration print for our Waterproof Jackets.
With a deep fascination for the human response to colour and texture, Erin’s art is an emotional journey that captures the energy and movement of brushstrokes and the intrigue of unexpected colour combinations. We sat down with Erin to learn more about her art practice, and the story behind the painting - Fairy Bread Crumbs.
How did you get into art? Have you always been creative?
I’ve been obsessed with colour and creativity for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was always drawing, painting, and making a mess in the best possible way. My family had a very entrepreneurial, creative vibe, so it’s in my bones. My background is in textile design and trend forecasting, where I spent years in the Australian fashion industry, before making the leap into full time art. Now, my days are filled with all things painting, experimenting with textures, and hunting for that perfect colour combo. Living on the Surf Coast in Victoria means I’m surrounded by endless inspiration. Oh, and my partner Curtis and our busy boys Rex and Digby keep me grounded (and definitely add to the chaos!).
Do you paint every day? Do you have a typical process or practice?
After 15 years of rushing to an office, I’ve really embraced the beauty of slow mornings. Sure, there’s still the mad dash to school drop-off and kinder, but then it’s coffee time and a little reset at home before diving into my day. I like to check my calendar, emails, milestones—then I head out to the Ashmore Arts Precinct, where my studio cottage is. Saying g'day to my fellow art pals and their pooches is a must, and it’s all about keeping that creative connection alive. My studio time could be anything from painting, brainstorming, or just having a boogie around the space to shake things up. I also like to squeeze in an ocean walk and pilates a few times a week to keep my mind fresh. Then it's post-office runs, supplier meetings, deliveries, and, of course, back to pick up the kids. It’s all about balancing creativity with life’s little chaos!
Are you more drawn to any particular colours? What does colour mean to you, metaphorically and literally?
As far back as I can remember, colour has been a huge part of my life. I’ve also got colour synesthesia, which I only recently discovered! It’s when your brain links colours to other senses or experiences—like I “see” colours in my mind whenever I hear sounds or think about certain things. I honestly thought everyone saw the world in the same way. I’m totally fascinated by how people respond to colour—how it can transport you to a different place, stir up memories, or even trigger emotions. The power of colour is something I am in awe of. Colours are like little mood changers for me, and they’re at the heart of my work. Whether it’s a pop of vibrant yellow or a soothing blue, each colour has its own unique energy that speaks to me, and I love how it speaks to others too.

Tell us about the artwork ‘Fairy Bread Crumbs’, what is the story and inspiration behind it?
Ah well "Fairy Bread Crumbs" is all about tapping into that childlike nostalgia and the simple joys that make life so sweet. Inspired by the classic Aussie treat, this piece is a vibrant celebration of whimsy and innocence, with pastel strokes sweeping across the canvas like a burst of joyful energy. The scattered pops of colour are like little bursts of happiness, reminiscent of those fairy bread crumbs from childhood birthday parties. It's a fun, playful nod to how sometimes the most magical moments are found in the most unexpected places, capturing the beauty of fleeting memories in a wash of colour and texture. It’s a reminder that there’s magic in the everyday—if you just take a moment to savour it.
What do you hope for people to experience with your art?
First and foremost, I hope my art brings joy! I want it to be a place of reflection and meditation, a space where people can pause and reconnect with themselves. Whether it's through colour, texture, or just the energy of the work, I want it to evoke a feeling that stays with you, even after you’ve walked away.
Does the outdoors influence or inspire your creative work?
Absolutely! The outdoors is a huge inspiration for my creative work. The ever-changing nature of the beach and the Aussie coastline always sparks something new—whether it's the colours in the sky at sunset or the textures of the sand. There’s a constant flow of energy and ideas that come from being outside, and I find myself soaking up all those little details and bringing them back to the studio. Whether I’m walking along the shore, watching the waves roll in, or just feeling the sea breeze, there’s something about nature that pushes me to experiment and play with colour, texture, and movement in my work.
What brings you joy?
Oh, where do I even start? My kids, family, and those deep, soul-connecting moments with people fill me right up. But I’m also a sucker for a good belly laugh—I’m pretty silly, so a proper crack-up really lights up my day! Creating always sparks joy for me, whether I’m in the studio or just messing around with ideas. Drawing and being creative with my kids is a big one too—it’s pure magic seeing their little imaginations take flight. Getting to the beach is a must (it’s like my happy place), and let’s not forget a delicious dinner and a spicy margarita. That combo right there? Pure joy.
Where are you going to be wearing your Fairy Bread Crumbs Waterproof Jacket?
You’ll probably spot me at school drop-off, brightening up the morning with a splash of colour! I’m not planning on taking it off anytime soon – it’s wearable art, after all. It’s like a little piece of joy wrapped around me – so you’ll probably see me in it for all my daily adventures this Winter.
Where do you like to go outdoors?
The beach is my happy place. There’s something so special about it—the sand, the water, and the way it’s always changing. I love the little discoveries you find along the shore, and the whole meditative vibe of it. The vastness of the ocean gives me a sense of perspective every time. Whether I’m going for a beach walk, building sandcastles, boogie boarding with the kids, or having a quick dip or float (a rare paddle board session thrown in), it never gets old. We also love our adventures along the Aussie coastline in our caravan—there’s always a new surprise around every corner. I feel super lucky to live where we do and to have our family soaking it all in so often. It’s just the best!

Lastly, and most importantly - when was the last time you ate Fairy Bread?
A month ago... I wish I was kidding! It was at my nephew’s first birthday. And let me tell you, I make a mean fairy bread.
