Sustainability Report 2023-2024

Sustainability Report 2023-2024

Covering the 18-month period from January 2023 to June 2024, we're proud to share our fourth  Sustainability Report with you. As a small company founded on values to operate as responsibly as possible, we believe it’s important to share our ever evolving sustainability journey and what goals and changes we can implement as we grow.

As we grow, so does our commitment to transparency and creating a responsible business, highlighting not just what we've accomplished, but also what we hope to achieve in the future.

Highlights

Materials

Since Amble began we’ve prioritised more responsible fabrics, from recycled polyester to organic cotton and have continued creating all of our fabrics from scratch, opting for more sustainable fibres.

Our predominant fabric we use in all of our collections is recycled polyester, made from post consumer PET plastic bottles. In creating our fabric we recycled 314,468 post-consumer bottles into our sustainable fabrics, bringing our cumulative total to 643,071 since the brand began. This is a huge milestone for us and one we’re incredibly proud of.

Carbon Offsetting

We’ve continued to offset the carbon of our jackets through our partnership with Greenstory. We have now offset a total of 39,751 kg of carbon, with the majority offset via renewable projects such as wind farms.

In addition to our carbon offsetting we previously were planting trees as well. At the start of 2023, we changed our approach from planting a tree for every order to planting a tree for every product sold.

We planted 5,526 trees in 2023, contributing to a grand total of 20,756. While we continue to focus on carbon offsetting, including reforestation projects as part of our carbon offsetting efforts, we decided to halt our tree planting program at the end of 2023.

People

As part of our Code of Conduct, all of our suppliers must pay their workers at least the minimum wage as per their relevant country. However ultimately we would love to ensure a living wage is paid across all suppliers. Unfortunately we didn’t have the staffing capacity to examine this in the past period.

We scored over 80 points in our initial B Corp assessment but currently don’t have the capacity as a tiny brand to complete the full application process at this time, as it is incredibly resource intensive.

Freight

Unfortunately, we stepped backwards with our freight goals, due to trying to align our production calendars with traditional retail schedules and refining our demand forecasting, we ended up sending 65% of our shipments via air freight and 35% via sea freight.

Our goal is to reduce air freight to 25% and increase sea freight to 75% moving forward.

Other

Giving Back: We donated $10,096 RRP worth of in-kind product donations to Thread Together, supporting those in need.

Packaging: We continued using recyclable, recycled, and compostable packaging, with no significant changes this period.

Sizing: We expanded our size range by adding sizes 20 and 22 in 2023. While we recognise this is not a complete solution, we’re proud of this progress and aim to include size 24 in 2025.
